Abstract:

This layer is a revised version of the 1:250,000 scale railroad data from 1965 that is available from the State Library. The data have been modified to allow its use to make a map similar to the map that was available from the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) web site in 2001. The NAME field has been updated to reflect the railroad owner shown on the MDT map and the old names have been moved to the new NAME1965 field. The value of the NAME field for railroad lines that have probably been abandoned or dismantled has been set to NONE. The revised route of the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe railroad between Stryker and Libby was digitized from 1:100,000 scale USGS maps.
